A few weeks ago I asked for podcast recommendations. I used to be an avid podcast listener, but last winter I went down a dark hole of true crime podcasts. They were excellent but left me seriously paranoid that everyone I passed on the street was a psychopath.
Luckily, I received some amazing recommendations from you all! I hit ‘subscribe’ to all of them and I’ve been slowly but surely working my way down the list. Now that I finally have my podcast queue fully loaded, I find myself looking for more excuses to listen (“No, Jordan, I’m happy to do the dishes/cook dinner/take the dog on a walk/stand in line at the post office.”)
I’ve compiled all of the suggestions so if you’re looking for something new, I’ve got you covered. And one more recommendation: if you’re looking for a different type of vacation in 2019, my sister-in-law just recorded a podcast about her experience walking the Camino de Santiago in Spain. After listening to it, I’m ready to take out my hiking boots and go exploring myself.
This weekend we’re taking a short trip to Vienna to visit the Christmas Markets. This is likely our last winter living in Europe so we made it a priority to book a trip to one of the most charming Christmas markets. If anyone has been to Vienna, send me your tips!
we’ve got you covered
The 28 podcasts you can’t stop talking about. And neither can I. My work productivity has been less than stellar this week thanks to these amazing recommendations.
I collect weird things. Namely, savings accounts. In another article from the archives, I share how many savings accounts we have (a lot) and how we keep our sanity with it. It’s not for everyone, but this system works for us.
Hey Joey. Where do Dutch people come from? On The Everymom I shared one of the worst trips I’ve ever taken. I took 12 weeks old Henry to Amsterdam and it didn’t go quite as I’d planned. Apparently, I’m not as go-with-the-flow as I thought. Since that trip, I’ve learned a lot about traveling with a baby and I have to say that I now (mostly) love it. Here are my 10 best tips for traveling with a baby.
Make Me Smart
smart-ish reads from around the internet
A money mentor. You probably know what to do with your money. Or, at least you’ve heard the advice. But why is there a gap between what you hear and what you do? This article brings up the idea of having a money mentor. Someone who is just a few steps ahead of you who can help show you the way. When I first read this I was a little sad because I can’t really think of who my money mentor is. But, I realized I don’t have just one. I talk to so many people about money that some of them have become my mentors without me even realizing it. Look around for this money mentor.
Do this before 2019. This is a VERY long article. The estimated read time is 75 minutes. But really, all I’ve done is two things so far and I’m so into this. How to configure your iphone to work for you — not against you. This article makes big promises like being more productive, more focused, and living longer. And it’s organized in an easy to read to-do list so you can implement a few tips at a time.
Married into money. Aside from taking a deep dive into as many podcasts as I could, I also found myself deep into Living With Money series from The Cut. This one about the guilt that accompanied a woman as she married into money was an interesting reminder that money guilt can come in all shapes and (bank account) sizes.
Make It Good
because life is about more than money
That’s what she said. This made me laugh and then cry a little because some of these things have definitely come out of my mouth. Take two minutes to brighten your day with this read: I’m Going To Close This Deal Using Business Words I’ve Heard Businessmen Yell In Airports.
