What a difference a week makes.
Last week at this time I was so stressed. My website was hacked and was rerouted to a site that was NSFW. Oh, it was terrible.
This week the sun is shining, my website is back and completely appropriate, one of my favorite personal finance experts shared an article of mine in his newsletter, and I am counting down the hours until Jordan and I are having a staycation. Henry’s with the grandparents this weekend and we’ve booked ourselves a hotel in our favorite neighborhood in London, Chelsea. We’ll spend the weekend visiting with friends, going to our favorite spots (like this, this, and this), and having no schedule.
And as a bonus, we booked the hotel using points I had completely forgotten about.
I’ve loved having the last 5 years living in my favorite city in the world. Now that we’re planning to leave, I’m trying to soak up as much of this city as possible.
we’ve got you covered
Is this thing on? You guys. I am floored with the feedback from the podcast. I am so grateful that people are actually listening. And, even better, taking action! I love all the questions people are sending in, so keep ‘em coming. Two new episodes for you to listen to:
- How to live a life you remember, with Laura Vanderkam. She’s completely changed the way I look at time.
- Our biggest money mistakes. Like the time Jordan called a loan shark…
We have so many fun interviews coming up that I can’t wait to share. So join in, keep listening, and start your own project.
PS: If you’re listening and loving it, we’d love for you to leave us a rating.
12 months with Henry: $24,032. All the belly laughs: priceless. When I was pregnant I would search the internet looking for how much I could expect our new little bundle of joy to cost. I came up with nothing. So, I decided to keep track for 12 months and share. I break down exactly what we spent and where. Plus, some mistakes that we made along the way.
The 10 item shopping list for a baby. We had a doula (who has worked with over a hundred new families) give us a list of what we needed for a new baby. Her list had 10 items. I added a few more. Here’s the rundown.
Make Me Smart
smart-ish reads from around the internet
Equal pay, today. Equal pay day is next Tuesday, so it’s the time to remind you that you may deserve to be paid more. If you only ever read one article on asking for a promotion, let this be it. Ramit Sethi breaks down the exact script to master the negotiation conversation.
And for even more info, he has a top notch “I Will Teach You to Be Rich” newsletter that 490,000 readers love, including myself. It includes more insider techniques on money, psychology, negotiation, and entrepreneurship. Sign up to get regular emails on earning more, creating new income streams, and living a Rich Life today. I think we can all get onboard with that last one.
168 hours is a lot. I asked Laura Vanderkam to be on our podcast after listening to this speech at TED Women. Her advice reframed my idea of busy and helped me find more time in my life. She inspired me so much I’m challenging myself to track my time in April using her method. Yes, I’m going to track my time all day, every day in 30-minute increments. The goal? To find more free time. Join in with me on Instagram!
The internet got angry(ier) this week. This article of a couple making $500,000 a year and living on an “average” budget got pretty much everyone up in arms. A lot of anger. A lot of “how dare they think they’re just scraping by.” But if you go to the original article on Financial Samurai, the best point in the article was missed by the angry mobs: “There’s a never ending cycle of financial comparison. And with comparison comes envy, jealousy, depression, and all sorts of ridiculous feelings that ould not be felt if you just took a step back and realized how fortunate you really are. This is why if you do want to beat the Joneses, you should compete on FREEDOM because there’ll always one more dollar to be made.” TRUTH.
